I have the 2nd generation IoT kit.  I've built the iot_monitor application, and I can run the applicaiton over adb.  I have not been able to get an IP address from the network.  I asked AT&T about this, and they referred me to this forum.

Cliff, there are several things that could be the problem, here are some of them:

1) You are located in North America using the AT&T network?

2) You have registered the SIM card with AT&T and it is enabled?

3) You have good signal strength with the cell site?

4) Using the out-of-box setup/instructions everything worked correctly per the documentation?

When you don't get an assigned IP it is ususally because the (1) you aren't taling with the cell site due to signal strength or (2) the SIM card isn't enabled on AT&T.

It really isn't right for AT&T to simply send you here without verifing that they have the SIM registgered, enabled, etc. since there is a lot they can do that we can't do here.  I would recomend you verify that the board works correctly with the out of box software first (before using your modified software).  We know that software works correctly as a starting point.
